LASIK Recovery and Results in North Jersey
LASIK Recovery Timeline
Healing after LASIK follows a predictable path, with most people seeing rapid improvement in the first few days and steady progress over the next months.
Mild discomfort is common during the first two days. You might notice several short-term changes.
- Dry or scratchy eyes
- Blurred or hazy vision
- Gritty or foreign-body sensation
- Light sensitivity
- Watery eyes
- Halos or glare at night
- Minor redness on the white of the eye
Many early symptoms begin to fade, but some may linger for a week.
- Dryness improves yet may still require artificial tears
- Vision may fluctuate on and off
- Light sensitivity continues for a small number of patients
- Night-time halos and glare lessen but can persist
- Visible redness is uncommon by the end of the week
By the first month most people enjoy stable sight, though a few changes can remain.
- Dryness affects fewer patients but lubricating drops are still helpful
- Halos and glare continue to fade
- Light sensitivity is rare
- The eye looks clear and white
Vision is functional but often looks “underwater.” You will leave the office wearing clear protective shields and should rest with eyes closed for several hours.
Most patients notice much sharper vision the next morning and return for a first check-up. Many can drive and resume light work, but everyone heals at a unique pace.
- Use all prescribed eye drops
- Wear protective shields while sleeping
- Avoid rubbing or touching your eyes
The corneal flap is still delicate. Avoid strenuous exercise, contact sports, dusty areas, and all eye makeup. Wear sunglasses outside and keep water out of your eyes when showering.
Minor vision shifts, halos, or dry feelings can come and go for several months. Full stabilization usually occurs between three and six months, with scheduled follow-up visits guiding your progress.
Caring for Your Eyes After Surgery
Proper aftercare protects your eyes and supports clear, lasting results.
Light walking is fine, but postpone running, heavy lifting, and contact sports until your surgeon clears you.
Avoid water exposure from pools, hot tubs, lakes, or direct shower spray for at least two weeks, and keep away from dusty environments.
Use antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops exactly as directed. Continue lubricating drops whenever your eyes feel dry, and wear eye shields while sleeping for the first week.
Expected Visual Results
LASIK aims to reduce or remove the need for glasses or contacts, and most of our patients achieve 20/20 vision or better.
Your exact outcome depends on your prescription and corneal shape. Detailed measurements taken before surgery help set realistic expectations.
The corneal change is permanent for most people. A small number may need an enhancement years later, and everyone can still develop age-related near-vision changes (presbyopia) in their mid-40s.
