North Jersey's Trusted Choice
For Advanced Surgical Procedures
We are proud to be the trusted choice of local doctors and families for over 48 years. This trust is built on delivering personalized, world-class surgical care, from advanced LASIK and cataract surgery to complex corneal transplants, oculoplastic surgery, and strabismus surgery.
Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery is a safe and effective procedure to restore clear vision caused by the clouding of the eye's natural lens. At Westwood Ophthalmology Associates, we perform this procedure to remove the cloudy lens and replace it with a clear, artificial intraocular lens (IOL). Our practice is a trusted leader in the community, with a legacy of over 48 years serving generations of families throughout Bergen County and the greater North Jersey area. We pride ourselves on utilizing advanced techniques, including dropless cataract surgery, to enhance patient comfort and promote quicker recovery, ensuring a seamless and reassuring experience for those seeking to regain their sight.
For patients seeking the best possible vision after cataract surgery, we offer a range of premium intraocular lenses designed to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses. Unlike standard lenses that correct vision at a single distance, premium IOLs can correct astigmatism and presbyopia, allowing for clear vision at multiple ranges. Our surgeons are experts in advanced lens technology, including the revolutionary Light Adjustable Lens (LAL). The LAL is the only lens that can be customized and fine-tuned after it has been implanted, offering an unparalleled level of precision and personalization to match your specific vision goals.
The surgical team at Westwood Ophthalmology Associates is comprised of highly skilled, board-certified ophthalmologists with exceptional training and specialized expertise. Our surgeons have completed prestigious fellowships at world-renowned institutions such as the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins and have held teaching positions at NYU. They are specialists in complex cases and advanced procedures, including the surgical correction of presbyopia and the implantation of the Light Adjustable Lens. Trusted by local doctors for their own families, our surgeons combine decades of experience with a commitment to providing patient-centered care and outstanding visual outcomes.
Advanced Corneal Transplants
When the cornea, the clear front window of the eye, is damaged, a transplant may be necessary to restore vision. At Westwood Ophthalmology Associates, our specialists perform the most advanced types of corneal transplants, offering new hope to patients throughout North Jersey. We specialize in cutting-edge, partial-thickness procedures like DMEK and DSEK, which replace only the damaged layers of the cornea, allowing for faster healing, a lower risk of rejection, and better visual outcomes compared to traditional full-thickness transplants (PKP). Our goal is to use the most precise and least invasive technique possible to repair your cornea and bring clarity back to your world.
Hope for Complex Cornea Conditions
Living with a cornea condition can be challenging, but clear and comfortable vision is possible with the right care. Our team has deep expertise in diagnosing and managing a wide range of issues affecting the cornea's health and integrity. We provide lasting solutions for conditions including Keratoconus, Fuchs' Dystrophy, corneal scarring, painful corneal ulcers, and pterygium. Whether your condition requires advanced surgical intervention or a specialized non-surgical treatment, we are dedicated to creating a personalized care plan that relieves discomfort and restores the health of your eye.
Our Cornea Surgeon
Dr. Jung S. Lee completed a prestigious fellowship in cornea and external disease at the world-renowned Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins and has trained new surgeons as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Rutgers.
Expert Care
With Compassion
A child’s vision is precious and requires specialized attention from an expert trained to meet their unique needs. Our pediatric ophthalmology service is led by Glen M. Bianchi, MD, who has advanced fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and strabismus surgery. Dr. Bianchi provides compassionate, expert care for infants and children of all ages, managing conditions such as strabismus (crossed eyes), amblyopia (lazy eye), and blocked tear ducts.
As a fellowship trained strabismus surgeon he provides strabismus surgery for children and adults with eye alignment issues. Families across North Jersey and the greater NYC area trust Dr. Bianchi to protect their child’s sight and ensure healthy visual development for a bright future.
We believe the most effective way to manage dry eye is with a comprehensive, team-based approach. All of our ophthalmologists are dedicated to diagnosing and treating this complex condition, beginning with identifying the specific root cause of your symptoms. For over 48 years, our focus has been on moving beyond temporary fixes to provide our patients in North Jersey and the greater NYC area with lasting solutions and genuine relief.
Our goal is to restore the natural balance of your tears and improve the health of your eye's surface. Your customized plan may include one or more of our state-of-the-art options, including:
In-Office Procedures: Treatments like Lipiflow, amniotic membranes, punctal plugs and lacrimal probing to address the underlying causes of your dry eye.
Advanced Prescription Therapies: Including Restasis, Xiidra, and the newly available Meibo (perfluorohexyloctane) eye drops.
Customized Solutions: For persistent symptoms, we offer specialized options such as autologous serum tears, Lacrifill to conserve tears, and expertly fitted scleral lenses.
Oculofacial plastic surgery is a highly specialized field dedicated to the health and appearance of the eyelids and surrounding facial structures. Our service is led by Dr. James Kirszrot, a dual-fellowship-trained oculofacial surgeon from Harvard Medical School. He performs advanced medical procedures to correct functional issues like ptosis (droopy eyelids), repair damage from skin cancers, and fix tear duct obstructions. Dr. Kirszrot also specializes in cosmetic procedures such as blepharoplasty (eyelid lifts) and the removal of lower lid bags, helping patients restore a more rested and youthful appearance with natural-looking results.
Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) represents a category of advanced procedures designed to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with mild to moderate glaucoma. These techniques utilize microscopic devices and small incisions, offering a less invasive alternative to traditional glaucoma surgery. MIGS procedures are often performed in conjunction with cataract surgery and are valued for their high safety profile and quicker recovery times, while potentially reducing the need for daily glaucoma eye drops.
Types of MIGS Procedures
Our practice offers several leading MIGS options to provide tailored treatment based on the patient's specific condition and anatomy. These include:
- iStent: The iStent is one of the smallest medical devices implantable in the human body. It is a tiny stent that is placed in the eye’s natural drainage system (trabecular meshwork) to create a bypass, helping to restore the normal outflow of fluid and lower pressure within the eye.
- XEN Gel Stent: The XEN Gel Stent is a very small, flexible tube that creates a new, gentle pathway for fluid to drain from within the eye to a space under the conjunctiva, thereby reducing intraocular pressure.
- Canaloplasty and Goniotomy: These non-implant procedures are designed to restore the function of the eye’s natural drainage canal. Canaloplasty and Goniotomy involve using specialized tools to either expand the drainage canal (Canaloplasty) or remove a small section of the blocked tissue (Goniotomy) to improve fluid outflow.
- Durysta Implant: Durysta is a dissolvable implant that is injected into the eye during a simple, in-office procedure. It automatically releases medication over several months to lower eye pressure, offering an alternative for patients who have difficulty with daily eye drop regimens.
- iDose TR: The iDose TR is a small, implantable device that continuously delivers a therapeutic dose of medication directly into the eye to lower pressure. This long-term implant is designed to reduce or eliminate the need for prescription glaucoma drops.
When considering cosmetic injectables like BOTOX and dermal fillers (such as Juvéderm and Restylane), the skill and anatomical knowledge of your provider are paramount. These treatments are personally administered by Dr. James Kirszrot, our Harvard-fellowship-trained oculofacial plastic surgeon. His profound understanding of facial anatomy ensures that every treatment is safe, precise, and effective. Whether you wish to smooth fine lines and wrinkles or restore natural volume, you can trust our expert to deliver subtle, rejuvenating results that enhance your appearance while maintaining a completely natural look.
